With what kind of love are we to love. Most of us are afraid of loving truly and deeply because we know that often it means we may get hurt. We love our friends, our loved ones, our family members, even the world. But often this love is the reciprocal. Where we are expecting love in return. What kind of love does Jesus call us to love with? In John chapter 15 verse 12 he says this, “This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you. No greater love has any one than this, than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Here Jesus is telling us that the love that the father has for him and the love that he has for us ought to be the love that we have for the world. That is a self giving love. A non-reciprocal love. Mother Teresa was once asked to define what love meant to her and she said it means giving until it hurts. Dear friends, let us love one another as Christ has loved us. Let us learn to love until it hurts.
